Quantum Companies in China by Funding

China's quantum technology sector spans superconducting and photonic quantum computing (Hefei, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Beijing) and state-backed quantum communication networks. Figures reflect media-reported rounds, which are often partially undisclosed; treat totals as lower-bound approximations.

China's quantum sector combines venture-backed startups with state capital: QuantumCTek and China Telecom Quantum Group operate the national QKD backbone, while Origin Quantum, Turing Quantum and SpinQ compete across superconducting, photonic and desktop-NMR computing. Disclosed amounts are frequently partial — RMB figures are converted at approximate rates and treated as lower bounds, so treat gaps between Chinese entries and US/EU peers with caution rather than as exact rankings.

How to read this ranking

China's quantum sector runs on two funding systems at once: venture-backed hardware startups in Hefei, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Beijing, and state-linked capital behind quantum communication infrastructure. This page ranks 10 tracked companies with about $1.6B of disclosed financing. Every RMB figure is converted at an approximate rate and treated as a lower bound.

Two funding systems in one table

A superconducting-computing startup pricing a Series C, a desktop-NMR manufacturer running a pre-IPO round, a STAR Market-listed QKD supplier and a telecom subsidiary capitalised with registered capital all appear in the same column. They are comparable only in the limited sense that all represent capital committed to a quantum business.

We keep the round label visible for exactly this reason. Registered capital is not a priced external round; an IPO is not a venture round; and a headline saying a company raised a cumulative amount over six months is not one financing event. The event timeline separates them so readers can rebuild whichever comparison they need.

Why RMB figures are lower bounds

Chinese announcements often say several hundred million RMB, nearly RMB 3 billion, or give no amount at all. Some quote a pre-money valuation alongside the round, which is a different number. Where two outlets report different figures for the same round we keep the conservative reading and merge the duplicate, rather than summing both headlines.

Approximate FX conversion adds a second layer of uncertainty. A ranking gap of ten or fifteen per cent between a Chinese and an American row is therefore not a meaningful difference. We say this on every page because the alternative — presenting false precision — is worse for anyone using the data.

The STAR Market effect

A public listing brings disclosure obligations, which is why the quantum communication names in this cohort tend to have firmer figures than early-stage computing startups. It also brings a different kind of capital: an IPO raise is cash to the company, but it is not a valuation of a private round and should not be compared as if it were.

The practical consequence is that the top of this table is partly a map of which Chinese quantum companies have accessed public markets. That is useful information, but it is a listing map, not a technology ranking.

What this ranking cannot tell you

It does not capture provincial quantum programmes, university laboratory funding, procurement contracts, or undisclosed strategic investment. It cannot tell you which company has the most capable processor or the strongest patent position. It is a conservative, source-linked record of public financing claims — and we publish the raw JSON so anyone can disagree with our rules and recompute it.

What the numbers on this page actually show

Of the 10 companies on this list, 10 have a disclosed cumulative figure and 0 do not. The median disclosed total is $85M; the three largest rows (Origin Quantum, China Telecom Quantum Group, SpinQ) account for roughly 76% of all capital tracked here, led by Origin Quantum. That concentration is a property of capital-intensive hardware, not a verdict on which technology works best.

Every figure is a lower bound. Undisclosed rounds, partially disclosed RMB amounts, grants bundled into a financing package and public-market programmes drawn down over months all move the same row in different directions. We publish the underlying JSON so you can recompute the table under your own rules; the ranking rule itself is documented on the methodology page, and the reasoning behind editorial choices is on the editorial policy page.
