Quantum Companies in Europe by Funding

Europe's quantum ecosystem spans France, Germany, Finland, the UK, the Netherlands and Austria, anchored by deep-tech spinouts and EU funding programs. This page ranks European quantum companies by total disclosed funding.

Europe's funding mix is unusual: European Commission and EIC grants sit alongside venture rounds, which is why regional databases that include grants place Europe's total higher than private-VC-only counts. Multiverse Computing, IQM, Pasqal and Oxford Quantum Circuits anchor the top of the table, while foundries (QuantWare) and qubit-chip startups (Quobly, Quantum Motion) give the region unusually deep hardware supply chains. Filters below let you separate computing from communication and sensing, and every figure links to its reporting.

How to read this ranking

Europe's quantum financing is spread across France, Germany, Finland, the UK, the Netherlands and Austria, with 26 tracked companies and about $4.4B of disclosed capital. What makes this cohort hard to count is that European Union and national grant programmes sit alongside ordinary venture rounds in the same press coverage.

Grants and venture capital share a column

A European deep-tech company may announce a financing package that bundles a private round, an EIC or national grant, and a procurement commitment. Some trackers count the whole package; venture-only databases count none of the public portion. Both produce a defensible number, but they are not the same number.

Our approach is to record what was disclosed as a company financing, flag grants explicitly when they are named, and mark the figure approximate where the split is unclear. That keeps the total conservative and makes disagreements auditable rather than silent.

A distributed hardware supply chain

The region is unusual in how many distinct layers it contains: neutral-atom and photonic processor builders, silicon-spin foundry projects, quantum control electronics, error-correction software, and dedicated processor fabrication. Several of these layers raise modest rounds while being structurally important to the whole ecosystem.

A funding ranking will always favour the full-stack processor builders. If you are using this page to understand the European industry rather than to rank it, the company descriptions and sub-technology labels are more informative than the amount column.

Why national programmes complicate totals

Each country reports public support differently, in different currencies and on different calendars. A Finnish round, a French round with a public co-investment, and a UK round with a research grant attached are not directly comparable even after conversion to USD. We do not attempt to normalise them beyond the approximate rate used for currency.

The practical advice is to compare companies within a country or within a single round type first. Cross-country comparisons of cumulative total are where this dataset is least precise.

Listings, SPACs and valuation headlines

A SPAC merger or listing announcement changes the valuation reference point without necessarily adding a comparable cash round. Where an announcement gives a valuation but no transaction value, we store the valuation in its own field and leave the financing amount undisclosed. That distinction is easy to lose in an aggregated table and is worth checking before citing a figure.

What the numbers on this page actually show

Of the 26 companies on this list, 26 have a disclosed cumulative figure and 0 do not. The median disclosed total is $58M; the three largest rows (Multiverse Computing, IQM Quantum Computers, Pasqal) account for roughly 49% of all capital tracked here, led by Multiverse Computing. That concentration is a property of capital-intensive hardware, not a verdict on which technology works best.

Every figure is a lower bound. Undisclosed rounds, partially disclosed RMB amounts, grants bundled into a financing package and public-market programmes drawn down over months all move the same row in different directions. We publish the underlying JSON so you can recompute the table under your own rules; the ranking rule itself is documented on the methodology page, and the reasoning behind editorial choices is on the editorial policy page.
